Women's Motorcycle Jeans

uglybros_aegis_k_womens_motorcycle_kevlar_jeans.jpg

Stumbled upon these riding jeans the other day after reader Amy submitted a question to me about gear. It looks like UglyBros makes super skinny riding jeans.  Since skinny jeans are all the rage right now, it only makes sense, right? however, something tells me these are way too skinny for my liking. I have 2 pairs of skinny jeans at home and those aren't as skinny as other jeans, and they drive me crazy. But the nice thing about these is that they offer hip and knee armor (one of my pet peeves with riding jeans for women when they withhold armor). Although the denim is not a denim + kevlar weave, they reinforce the hip and knee areas with DuPont Kevlar.

Given the features & fit that Rev'it offers in it's women's riding jeans, I can't see paying more for these unless I really wanted or needed the skinniest possible fit possible. Or if I simply liked the aesthetic design more than other brands on the market. Apparently this brand comes from S. Korea. I can see why they're so skinny.

The Broadway ladies jeans are designed by women for women. All of REV’IT!’s women’s gear is designed specifically with the female body in mind, and the regular straight fit of the Broadway is no different. The solid dark blue washing makes the denim stiff and strong, and is further strengthened by the PWR | shield panels and KNOX® protection in adjustable pockets at the knees.   With these jeans you will show everyone you are a fashionable woman on a bike.

  • 11oz Cordura® denim
  • Lining: polycotton plain weave
  • Protective layer: PWR|shield
  • Outer shell: 85% cotton, 15% , lining: 80% polyester, 20%

I would only recommend the Broadway simply because it offers Hip and Knee armor. I've crashed twice and both times hip and knee armor protected my body. I never ride in pants without hip and knee protectors anymore. I'm anxious to see these in person though. And I would would wear them in the city. (no highway riding)

Description from REV'IT:

The jeans are made of 12.5oz Cordura® denim with COOLMAX® element, which means they are stiff and strong but will still wick moisture away and keep you comfortable. They are constructed with triple needle stitching, safety stitching and feature KNOX® knee protectors for safety. The Madison jeans are designed to capture the freedom and are the ultimate riding trousers.

It looks like the Madison are a lighter version, with only knee protection and Coolmax for more breathability.

I think it's awesome that they're offering the sizes in US waist! Meaning, you measure your waist and that's your size. Voila!

Overpants, Vegan Gear, Gloves

Overpants: So I finally got those MotoGP pants from New Enough. Sadly, they are a *little* too small on me right now. Even if I lost a few more pounds, I don't think I'd wear them. They are decent, come with knee armor and zip from hip to toe. And they were an amazing deal thru NE. I'm a size 4 in pants, but these fit more like a 2-4 as an overpant. I doubt I'd be able to wear them as pants with the liners in. So, I'll probably end up ordering the Olympia Pro Max pants in a size 6. Much more comfortable and they aren't very bulky, imo. Someone did recommend the Joe Rocket Alter Ego overpants to me, but I wonder how strong the textile is compared to Olympia. It's sad, but the girl in me likes the gray squiggly pattern above the butt. However, the gearchic in me likes the construction, inseam, adjustable armor position and comfort of the Olympia's.

Vegan Gear: Awhile back I posted about Vegan Motorcycle Gloves. I found another pair sold through Motoport.com.

Kevlar Racing Glove, $129 US: http://www.motoport.com/_product_35446/Kevlar_Racing_Glove

I'm going to try and build a better listing of Vegan gear options on my Directory page, so please keep checking back. Or, if you have any recommendations you'd like to make, please post a comment here.
