Interview with CoFounder of Moto Shop, a Different Kind of Motorcycle Garage

MotoShop-Logo I've always been a fan of Moto Shop, and before I moved here, I visited often so I could work on my bike and see my friends! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you need to listen to my interview here:

News segment on local CBS about women and riding

Earlier this week, my friend Aleks and I were contacted through our meetup group, Bay Area Moto Girls, by KPIX/CBS local news to do a news segment about the growing numbers of women riding motorcycles.

I gathered about a dozen friends who ride and we met up with everyone at the Moto Shop, where they interviewed us about why we ride, and what we ride. Unfortunately it was a really short and sweet segment, but hopefully people get the idea :)

WIN a weekend in Lake Tahoe!

international female ride day san francisco party event 2012

Lake Tahoe Adventure Ride & Rendezvous Donates Grand Prize: Tickets for 2 + Lodging for Friday May, 4 2012: International Female Ride Day Party, San Francisco

San Francisco, April 19, 2012 -- Some lucky woman motorcyclist will win two tickets and lodging for the Lake Tahoe Adventure Ride & Rendezvous event during the San Francisco’s International Female Ride Day party. The party is happening on Friday, May 4, 4-7 pm at Moto Shop, 325 South Maple Ave, #20 in South San Francisco. Co-founder of the event, Carl Ribaudo, will be riding from Tahoe to present the grand prize, which includes three nights lodging at the Lakeside Inn and Casino.

On this 6th International Female Ride Day the theme is “JUST RIDE!” and women motorcyclists everywhere have planned events, group rides, or are simply riding to work or to do whatever they do. The purpose for this unified day is to bring awareness of the numbers of women who ride, to unify women in motorcycling, no matter what they ride, and to encourage other women to adopt the sport. Women from around the world participate in this globally-synchronized day, including women in Australia, Greece, Russia, India, Hungary, and beyond. The event was founded by Vicki Gray of MOTORESS, an online women's motorcycle magazine devoted to women motorcycle enthusiasts of all ages and styles.

Men and women from all over the San Francisco Bay Area are welcome to join in no matter what they ride (motorcycles, scooters, trikes, sidecars). Other local businesses providing prizes are MAD Maps, BMW Motorcycles of San Francisco, SF Moto, Scuderia West, City Bike, Infineon Raceway, and more sponsors to come. Unfortunately, only women riders are eligible to win these fabulous prizes.

Come meet other women riders, show off your bike, or find out how you might learn to ride. The event is organized by Joanne Donn, founder of GearChic, Aleks Grippo, co-owner of Moto Shop, and Carla King, author of the Motorcycle Misadventures series of books and online dispatches from the road. Let us know how you want to participate.

You must be present to win!

Next Gear Seminar

revit ignition 2 I'm excited to announce that Thursday, April 5th at 6pm is going to be the next CoEd Gear Seminar at the Moto Shop!

This class is going to be limited to just 5 men and women, so that everyone gets plenty of one on one attention and so the class finishes well within the 90 minutes allowed (probably a little sooner too).  I'll do my best to have samples for everyone on hand (mens gear too!).

Class Description:

This hands on gear seminar will show how to determine the right fit and sizing for your motorcycle gear. How should that jacket fit? Is it too snug? Too loose? Why does it need to fit this way? How long do my pants really need to be? Why are motorcycle boots better than regular boots?  With samples partially provided by Scuderia West, you'll get to try on helmets, jackets, boots, gloves and pants. This is the perfect class for new riders or seasoned riders new to the world of motorcycle gear. If you bring /wear an outfit that you currently ride in, you'll also walk away with a personalized fit evaluation and recommendations. Since the goal of this seminar is to provide enough one on one time for each student, the class size will be limited to 5 students.

How to register, location, etc.:

Hope to see you there!

Oil Change Class & Gear Seminar

Learn how to change your own oil!

Then, spend an hour with me, trying on gear and figuring out what fits, what doesn't and were to buy it.

On Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 1pm-3pm, my friend Aleks will be teaching a girls only  oil change class at the Moto Shop in South San Francisco.  Changing your own oil takes maybe 30 minutes and is soooo easy. It's so satisfying knowing how to fix something on your own motorcycle. It's yours, why not figure out how it works?

Afterwards, we'll move over to the couch and my friends at Scuderia West in San Francisco will be sponsoring this class by providing samples of jackets, pants, boots and gloves for you to try on. As this class is limited to 5 people, Aleks and I are going to give you some real one on one time in this class.

As of this post, there are only 3 spots left. Ack! Sign up before someone else takes your spot. :)

See you then!
